WIDOWS PENSIONS FOR LIFE UPDATEPublished: 03 May 2024
With reference to the Widows Pensions for Life e-mail recently circulated to Secretaries for the attention of their members and the Drop-In at Westminster on 7/5/24 in connection with the matter that it is very disappointing to report that this has been CANCELLED. The reasons are that MP’s are on a single line whip from their parties that day and there is also doubt over the Train system because of threatened strikes. This very important...

Current Position on the Pension Commutation Sanction Charge 31/3/24Published: 05 April 2024
There has been much said on social media groups etc, about the sincerity of the Force's approach to the pension Scheme Sanction Charge issue and, disappointingly, the paraphrasing of e-mails sent out by the Force has distorted reality with a small number getting things out of proportion. I thought it would be helpful if I set out our position to date.
This issue may affect pensioners who retired from 2011 and took the maximum com...

Latest Update on the Commutation Scheme Sanction ChargePublished: 23 February 2024
As a result of the circular issued by the National Office of NARPO, (e-mailed to all NARPO members) which sets out the fact that some Forces were deducting a scheme sanction charge of 15% from commutation payments which breached the HMRC maximum limit, which they were not entitled to do, it became clear that Norfolk was one of those Forces.
This will only apply to those officers who have retired since 2010 when the commutation ...

Widows/Widowers Pension Update & Requested ActionEvent Date: 17/04/2024
This is not an Event but I did not want to usurp the pension scheme sanction charge information.
In brief, any police widows/widowers who are in receipt of a police pension lose this pension should they decide to remarry. Narpo considered this a real injustice, it does not apply to Armed Forces widows/widowers and our widows/widowers should not have to chose between 'love or money.'
Narpo took this matter to the Court of ...
